Sky of Love is planning to open a foster care home for orphaned, neglected, and abused children in Ghana. This home will fulfill Sky of Love’s mission of providing underprivileged and vulnerable children with an environment in which they can grow to become responsible and caring adults. Education will be the priority and non-violence will be the norm.
In Ghana, like in many other countries, children are beaten every day. For seemingly trivial reasons, they are beaten at school, at home, and in the orphanages. They grow up in an atmosphere of fear and violence, without the love and compassion they need and deserve. Sky of Love’s foster care home will be a safe haven for children with zero tolerance for any physical, verbal, or psychological violence or abuse per our mission to implement the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child.
Ghana has a high illiteracy rate, as only 64% of adults are literate according to the UNESCO EFA Monitoring report, 2009. Our foster care home will provide an education that would otherwise be denied to some underprivileged children. This will ultimately contribute to the development of their country, and move toward the eradication of poverty pursued by the UN Millennium Development Goals.
Antonio D’Auria will be heading our foster care home as a lifetime commitment. His experience with mentoring children and his understanding and knowledge about foster care will be invaluable. Caring and trustworthy individuals will assist him in looking after the well being of the children. Sky of Love’s members will be parenting long distance and with periodical visits. The kids will be mentored and closely monitored so that they can fully take advantage of the educational opportunities provided for them.
Sky of Love is asking for generous donations to finance this foster care home. The costs will include: expenses necessary for the rental of a home in Accra to house 6 kids and their caregivers, expenses for the employment of caregivers, as well the expenses for feeding and educating the kids during our beginning goal of a two year period.
